The DEA will shortly withdraw their intent to schedule Kratom to open up a public comment period for the public and scientific communities to have their comments evaluated. As The Washington Post headlined it, “The DEA is withdrawing a proposal to ban another plant after the Internet got really mad.” They went on to recognize the “insanity” of the decision to ban kratom and recognized the withdrawal as unprecedented.
The move is “shocking,” according to John Hudak, who studies drug policy at the Brookings Institution. “The DEA is not one to second-guess itself, no matter what the facts are.” – The Washington Post
While this is a big step, the fight is far from over. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed to keep access to this life saving plant available to the public.
